  • Greensboro is named for General Nathanael Greene, who, in 1781, led American forces during the Revolutionary War’s Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
  •  The Barn Dinner Theater is the oldest continuously running dinner theater in the United States. It was opened in 1964 and is the last of the original Barn Dinner Theaters.
  • Dolley Payne, born to a Quaker family in Greensboro, is better known as Mrs. Dolley Madison, First Lady to the 4th President of the United States.
  • While working in Greensboro, pharmacist Lunsford Richardson developed Vick’s VapoRub, the menthol ointment which still helps many breathe easier today.
  • The first Arts Council in the United States is located in Winston-Salem and Salem is where the country’s first composition of classical music occurred.
